Physical Description
Appearance: Bria has brown eyes and red hair down past her shoulders. She has tanned skin, and across it, large red tattoos that span across her body, acting as conduits for her Atlantean Mystical Power.She is five feet and ten inches tall, and has a toned, slim build.Personality
Bria used to be an excitable, confident and stubborn girl, constantly excited by the world around her and empowered by discovery and social connection.However, after withdrawing from the people she called friends, she became more aloof and detached, and her self-discovery following it has mellowed our her rougher, more excitable edges. Her laid-back demeanour hasn't changed though, and she still enjoys the company of others, but she still holds some guilt and regret for the decisions she's made.In spite of this dash of pessimism, she still remains the daughter of diplomats, and thrives when spreading peace and helping others. Ever the hero at heart. Her strong connection with spiritualism and calm presence means she comes off as wiser than her years, and she tries to live up to that feeling.
Her Story
Bria was born to Atlantean diplomats, who worked closely with the surface world. As she grew up, she was exposed to the human world more and more, and gained a fascination with their culture, politics and way of life. She even had a human pen pal!At the same time, her magical potential was detected by the Silent School, and she was enrolled as a student. She quickly grew strong with their mystical abilities, developing hydrokinesis and electricity generation in tandem. At the same time, she used the opportunity to study the surface world, its history and customs.However, her thirst for the surface world wouldn't be so easily quenched. Eventually, on her eighteenth birthday, she convinced her dads to allow her to move in with her pen pal on the surface, and live among the humans; it was a dream come true to her.She began studying their customs up close, learning all their was to know about surface life. Its strengths, and its drawbacks. Bria quickly understood that humans caused themselves so much pain and misery with their in-fighting. So many suffered for others' greed and hatred.So she did what any magic-wielding Atlantean would do. She became a superhero! Donning the codename Moray, she began saving the people of Denver, Colorado with her powers. This attracted the attention of superheroes in the area. Velocity, Celerity, Black Serpent, Requiem, Violet Lantern, and herself came together to form the team The Defenders of Denver, working together to stop all sorts of crime, but also coming together as a family, supporting one another through hardships, and enjoying each other's presence.Suddenly, all that would come crashing down. Faster than she could react. One day, she was sent a distress signal from her dads at a harbour on the west coast. who had been kidnapped by anti-Atlantean terrorists. The rest of the Defenders were out on an important mission, so she rushed to the scene to help her fathers.When she arrived, she was attacked by Black Manta, who had been hired to kill her parents for proposing radical outreach programmes between humans and Atlanteans. She fought him off as best he could, even knocking him back for a few moments. Using the few moments she had, she searched for her parents. She found them both, lifeless. Dead.In a fit of grief and rage, her powers spiked, creating a destructive electrified whirlpool that incapacitated the villain, but also did huge damage to the harbour, and led to eleven innocent casualties, and many more injuries.Racked with guilt, fear and self-hatred, Bria ran. She ran, and swam away from America, disappearing into the ocean. The tragedy was reported on as a freak accident, and none of it was connected back to her by the public.Still, she hated herself for it. She couldn't return to her friends on the surface, not after what she had done. She wouldn't be able to face any of them. She lost control and it cost lives; they would HATE her. But she couldn't go back to Atlantis either. Her dads were dead...no, she had nothing left there. And, for some unknown reason, she couldn't access her magical anymore.Instead, she found herself drifting between communities in the Pacific Ocean, staying for a few weeks, and disappearing onto the next place. She did this for nearly six months, before she arrived in Samoa.Initially, she had intended to repeat what she had been doing, stay for a while, and disappear without a trace. However, in the small village she was staying in, she met the village elder Aputi, a man who understood her plight. He saw in her pain, grief and guilt, clouding her mind. He offered her community, support and acceptance in their place. He offered to help her clear the block on her magical abilities, and though it may take years, heal her mind and her heart.Initially, Bria rejected the offer, travelling away from the village. Days passed, then weeks, and the offer stuck firmly in her mind. Eventually, Bria caved and returned to the village, where she was accepted with open arms.Over the next four years, she began her process of healing. She studied Samoan spirituality, and meditated regularly. She began giving back to the community as a swimming and surfing instructor, as well as with community activities. She started reflecting on herself, her past mistakes, her decisions, and her life before. As painful as it was, she wanted her friends back in her life. But first, she had to be sure she wasn't a threat anymore. That she would never hurt anyone again.After years of study, and plenty of practice, she undertook a cleansing ritual, a journey into a dormant volcano, opening herself back up to her magic, and forgiving herself of her mistakes. It was hard, an emotional and physical trial by fire, but by the end, she had reconnected to her magic, and her potential seemed even more heightened. Instead of her limited hydrokinesis and electrical generation, now she wielded a much more powerful form of both.So, she dedicated the next six months of her life to practicing control. Control of her powers, control of her emotions. Now confident she's mastered her powers and temper, she's hoping to reconnect with the two worlds that she calls family: her Defenders, and Atlantis.
Powers and Abilities
Atlantean Physiology: Bria was born in Atlantis, and as such, she has the basic Physiology of an Atlantean. This includes greatly increased strength, speed, durability and stamina to combat the crushing pressure of the depths. Similarly, she has increased senses and reflexes, particularly hearing and sight, to function underwater. She also absorbs oxygen through her skin, so she can breathe underwater.Atlantean Magic: Bria has extensive training from multiple Atlantean Mystical masters in their magical traditions. While she initially focused on expanding her expertise, in recent years, she has focused on increasing her power and control of the magic she has access to.Hydrokinesis: Using Atlantean Magic and her mystical tattoos, Bria can create and manipulate the water around her to devastating effect. She can create water whips, blast torrents of water at her enemies, create massive waves, and even draw water from the air.She has extreme control of this water, able to heat it to scalding temperatures, or reduce it to freezing. Though she cannot control ice, only change it back to water.Electrokinesis: While Bria was once only able to generate and output electricity, she has since developed the ability to control its flow. She can electrify her water with ease, but is also capable of shooting blasts of electrical energy from her body, and propel herself through the air with electrical energy.She is also capable of absorbing and redirecting electrical energy through her body.Communication with Sealife: Bria is capable of speaking to aquatic creatures through minor telepathic abilities. Through this ability, she is able to influence their actions, but no more than suggestions.
Abilities:Hand-To-Hand Combat: From her time with The Defenders of Denver, she was trained in hand-to-hand combat by her teammates. She knows basic defensive and offensive techniques from a variety of disciplines, including kung fu, krav maga, taekwondo, and even atlantean martial arts.Mystical Knowledge: Bria was trained in Atlantean mysticism from a young age, and as well as learning the physical side, she excelled in learning the theoretical side, able to recall and put into practice various techniques and theories in the realm of magic and connecting to the ocean.Surfing: Bria was a professional surf instructor in Samoa, and as such, she is an expert at the sport.
